I am not familiar with the source material, but the mix is solid. Took half a star out because your orchestral strings don't exactly fit with the rest of your bitcrushed enviroment, they "float" over your mix, i think toning the reverb you are using and unifying it with the restt would make them fit a tad better. Aside from that, good job!

ganon95 responds:

thanks for the review. i do agreee the orchestral probably could have been implemented a little better however i do like the bass it adds to the mix

Hey, this is pretty good!!! For some reason the first thing that comes to mind is Clay Fighter hahaha This definitively has that"Crazy Circus" atmosphere all over the place,. The mixing is extremely pleasant too, even with all the stuff thats going on i could hear everything clearly. I have no bad remarks, good job!

Azhthar responds:

Glad you like it! For the mixing I was actually not completely sure. I wish I could bring some of the instruments out a bit better but probably I just overloaded the track at some points (which I always do) and come to my limits here what my limited mixing abilities limitate... Just had a peak into Clay Fighter. Didn´t know it before :)

My 2 cents.

Percussion is on point, i like the variety it has. I really liked the string ensemble AFTER the first 35 seconds. Those 35 seconds were eternal for me, the strings got really repetitive in that interval. i really liked what you did after though, good job. I also like the overall atmosphere of the song, how you managed to get an almost industrial sound of a mostly orchestral piece. Keep the good work!

Brenticus responds:

thank you , I'd keep your review in memory. :)

At first i thought he main synth lead at the beginning was weird but the strange vibrato grew on me.

Love the chill aprt with the arpegies, got a vibe from Tower of Heaven, kinda chiptun-ish. I am not fond of the later key change, i think it could have been done in a better, smoother way. The piano is nice but the effects overload, sounds really crappy on my speakers despite being well mixed and good sounding in my phones. You should try to hear your track in more than one setup to see how they sound their. Sometimes a sng sounds perfect in some profesional headphones, but like crap in some Ipod earbuds. Aside from that i really enjoyed the track, specially the ending, keep up the good work!

Onefin responds:

Yes, I got a review from the 5th place winner of NGAUC! Thanks for reviewing!

Strange vibrato lol

You spelled "part" wrong. Or is it "apart"? Great, now I'm not sure whether you like or dislike the arps due to a simple typo. :/

I don't know what Tower of Heaven is XD

Yeah... the key change was meant to symbolize something. I felt people might not like it because of context, but maybe it just wasn't smooth. I don't know, my tactic for creating the change was to shift the top note down one semitone each chord and then fill the rest in with what sounded dark and creepy. It might not have been a 100-percent sure-fire tactic, but it worked at least on the surface level.

The effects sound okay on my headphones. I honestly don't have many other setups I can try. I mean, I can unplug my headphones and try my earbuds, but I can't really listen to it on a phone until it's publicly released and then it's too late. And I don't have speakers :P I dunno, maybe there are ways.

Thanks! I liked the drop the most, but the ending is really cool, too! ;)

Have you ever played Star Ocean or Valkyrie Profile?? If not then do it and hear the ost, your style is really similar to the one Motoi Sakuraba uses in those games, good job c:!

ChronoNomad responds:

The only Star Ocean game I've played is Till the End of Time on PS2, but I believe I can see what you are referring to just from that. Thank you very much for such a fine compliment, NyxTheShield! ^___^

For the first minutes i think the back synth pad you have is kinda dominant, the melodies you have are really nice but the potency of the pad drowns them, you should tone it down a bit. Then around the 2 minute mark the saw synth eats EVERYTHING, same problem i think, you have some really nice melodies going on it but they just kinda get drowned. Aside from that, i liked this c:

ChromaShift responds:

Thank you for this review! Yeah, you're right, I tone it down a bit, ai think that I can hear the melodies even if the pad is playing but that's different with every speaker or headphones ^^ Glad you liked it even when I made a little mistake, have a nice day!

I can definitely hear vibes from The Strokes and Arctic Monkeys on this, kinda my coup of tea (I hate those bands but i like indie in general hahahaha), My only problems with this are the lack of a decent ending (Fading away has never been my thing for rock, maybe for chillout or that kind of styles but i think rock needs a powerful ending) and that the vocals are little bit muffled, you should have toned them up or tone the guitar downa bit, as it stands, the vocals are a bit weak. Aside from that, good job!

JacquesandtheGiants responds:

Wow I am heavily influenced by the strokes and the arctic monkeys have taken on a lot of the townie culture that I grew up with. Funny enough the fade out ending was a studio error witch we wish to correct at some point for a video. I may well upload an acoustic version to display how it was originally wrote. Over the moon with this response :) ty

The first 45 seconds of the song could be completely cutoff, they feel as a filler, they dont lead to anything or build up decently to feel like a big change. The "drop" at the minute mark was a bit dissapointing as well, it doesn't evolve into anything new, basically you have the same chord progression for over 5 minutes with barely any changes. The percussion side is weak too, it doesn't stand out and it feels drowned by the rest. Keep working and you will eventually start getting everything down.

T7ven responds:

I added sub bass, bass, drums, made the saw louder, added an impulse at the drop. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I can't say i am fond about the kick (too dry for my taste), but i really like everything else, especially the lead synth, it really makes this this unique, it reminds me of some brony musicians i used to listen to. The production is really cool too!! Aside from the kick (That bothered me a lot :c), really good job!!

aliaspharow responds:

Your face is too dry for my taste

Fantastic, i wonder who was the asshole/s who 0 bombed this, i really love it. As a recommendation, you should try to denoise this entirely, there a few parts with a heavy white noise in the background, also,,you should boost the higher frequencies of the piano to make it brighter. A bit more of reeverb would help a lot too, nice work!!!

(PD: If you want a super chill effect, send the piano channel to 2 extra auxiliar channels, pan them 80% left and right, add a wet reeverb and chorus and delay and you will get something like this: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/93823550/Newgrounds.mp3

HeAvEn-SmiLE responds:

Hello, Thanks a lot for the review! This means a lot for me!

Yes, about the effects, It has changed, I've handled everything to have a better sound, check Un Lion D'Andalou to hear the different imrpovisations.

Thanks a lot for that chill effect! It's awesome and I love it, thanks for the tips also.
